Martinsson was featured composer at Stockholm International Composer Festival in 2008 and has been Composer in Residence with Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra (PO) and Netherlands Chamber Orchestra (CO) at Concertgebouw as well as with Malmö Symphony Orchestra (SO), Helsingborg SO and Musica Vitae. His collaborations have led to performances in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Musikverein, Berliner Philharmonie, Concertgebouw, Gewandhaus, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Salzburger Festspielhaus and Suntory Hall, Opera City Hall and Metropolitan Art Space, Tokyo. Martinsson's music is performed by orchestras such as Cleveland Orchestra, Detroit SO, Boston SO, BBC SO, City of Birmingham SO, NDR Sinfonieorchester, Bamberger Symphoniker, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Vienna Radio Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields and all the major Nordic orchestras in collaboration with conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Alan Gilbert, Sakari Oramo, Neeme Järvi, Manfred Honeck, Vassily Sinaisky, Johannes Gustavsson, Stefan Solyom and soloists such as Anne Sofie von Otter, Christian Lindberg, Edicson Ruiz and Hans Pålsson. The successful collaboration with Swedish soprano Lisa Larsson, now exceeding 120 performances, has led to major international commissions such as Garden of Devotion and Ich denke Dein... Larsson has premiered seven vocal works by Martinsson, which all are dedicated to her. Collaborating orchestras have been Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Netherlands PO, Netherlands CO, Scottish CO, Royal Stockholm PO, Gothenburg SO and Malmö SO to mention a few. Future collaborations include orchestrations of vocal music by Mendelssohn and Zemlinsky, a semistaged work on poems by William Blake and Traumreise, based on songs by Franz Berwald, a concept created by Larsson. The collaboration also includes four CD portraits – on BIS and Challenge Records labels – of Martinsson's vocal music of which "Presentiment" (BIS) was released in May 2018. Larsson is represented on the recording with Orchestral Songs on Poems by Emily Dickinson with Royal Stockholm PO under the baton of Andrew Manze. The earlier collaboration with Håkan Hardenberger resulting in the trumpet concerto Bridge, led to the international scene and the concerto has been frequently performed since the premiere in 1999. A. S. in Memoriam for string orchestra and the orchestral concert opener Open Mind have also had numerous performances. Martinsson composed his clarinet concerto Concert Fantastique and the chamber version Suite Fantastique, clarinet and piano, inspired by Martin Fröst. Both pieces are premiered by and dedicated to Fröst. Rolf Martinsson has received the awards "Stora Christ Johnson-priset" and "Rosenbergpriset" as well as Litteris et Artibus. His music is well represented on CD. Several European orchestras have toured his music internationally. Future commissions include an opera, Amy, commissioned by the Royal Swedish Opera, and new works for Lisa Larsson in collaboration with Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Malmö SO and NorrlandsOperan SO among others.
