Season 2024–2025

The 24/25 season has many exciting highlights. In January 2025 Malmö Symphony Orchestra (MSO) celebrates 100 years and their renown concert hall, Malmö Live, celebrates 10 years together with Håkan Hardenberger under the direction of Fabien Gabel. The programme on 16th and 18th of January includes Rolf Martinsson’s trumpet concerto “Bridge”. The 9th and 10th of January, Swedish soprano Hanna Husáhr performs “Ich denke Dein...” with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and conductor Patrik Ringborg.

In September French conductor Laurence Equilbey has programmed the French premiere of Martinsson’s orchestral arrangement of Robert Schumann’s piano suite “Kinderszenen” with her period ensemble Insula Orchestra for two performances in La Seine Musicale, Boulogne Billancourt, France and in Wroclaw, marking the Polish premiere of the piece. Martinsson’s “St Luke Passion” is programmed within the frame of choir.com and will be performed by Konzertchor der HMTMH and Andreas Felber at Neustädter Hof- und Stadtkirche, Hannover, Germany.

The season started already in July with the world premiere of Martinsson’s arrangement of Alexander von Zemlinsky’s “Walzer-Gesänge Op. 6”, arranged from the soprano and piano version to soprano and string quartet, a concept by soprano Lisa Larsson. At the same concert another concept by Lisa Larsson, “Hommage an Clara” for soprano and string quartet, was also performed by Lisa Larsson and Zemlinsky Quartet along with Martinsson’s “Duo for violin and cello” at Lyckå Chamber Music Festival. In October Lisa Larsson will also perform Hommage an Clara and Walzer-Gesänge Op. 6 at Torups Slott outside of Malmö together with a string quartet from MSO.

Over the years Martinsson has had a creative collaboration with English violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved. This season Sheppard Skærved will premiere Martinsson’s “Chapel Miniature” at St Petri church, Krämarkapellet, in Malmö and there are plans for more performances in Sweden and the UK.

In March, Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Clemens Schuldt have programmed Kinderszenen in Örebro concert hall. The 90th performance of “St Luke Passion” takes place in the wonderful church of Dalby with Lisa Larsson as evangelist, Peter Boman as Jesus, Dalby Kammarkör and ensemble, under the direction of Anita Andersson. Throughout 2023–2025 pianist Mats Jansson performs his rare and interesting “Diabelli Variations” project, including Martinsson’s variation, with concerts in Örebro, Linköping, Gothenburg, Norrköping, Leksand, Uppsala, Stockholm and Trollhättan.

Rolf Martinsson’s choir music was performed in early August by Per Borin’s Vocal Ensemble with Borin conducting two pieces, “Lux aeterna” and “Vid havet”, at concerts in Björnlunda kyrka, Oxelösund kyrka and Drottningholms slottskyrka. The vocal ensemble Canzonetta and conductor Kettil Skarby, who commissioned Lux aeterna and premiered the piece, have programmed it to be performed at Missionskyrkan in Uppsala and at Eric Ericson-hallen in Stockholm in September.

Conductor Hugo Bollschweiler has programmed Martinsson’s early orchestral piece “Impression” for two performances with Sinfonisches Orchester Wil in Lokremise Wil, Switzerland.
